Abstract

The formation of human capital in rural areas, adequate in quality to modern requirements for the level of functioning of the agricultural sector of the economy and trends in rural development, is the most important prerequisite for the har-monious spatial development of the Russian Federation, overcoming imbalances in the evolution of urban and rural localities, preserving rural communities and their places of life. The article presents the materials of the theoretical and empirical analysis of the most significant factors determining the development of human capital in rural areas (using the example of the Kurgan region as one of the depressed agricultural regions of Russia), including the social status of villagers, the structure and size of their income and expenses, and, consequently, opportunities to improve the human capital incorporated in them (by investing available funds in education, vocational training, development of entrepreneur-ial and creative abilities).
