Abstract
THE principal objective of this paper is to inform American scholars of trends and events in the development of Japanese sociology, hoping thereby to encourage some understanding of its present state and future prospects.1 This paper, which the writer considers to be no more than an outline treatment, was prepared especially for a visit to the United States to survey the recent trends in American social sciences. Messrs. John W. Bennett and Tomoo Ogita of CIE, SCAP, have read and offered stylistic corrections to the original English draft of this paper, for which thanks are extended. © 1950 The Williams & Wilkins Company.
