Abstract
It used to be acceptable to pay someone (or, if it was your wife, not pay them) to edit and then type up your research papers, book, or dissertation. Our reaction to Chat GPT so far has followed exactly the script most ed-tech tools use to promote their new tool: an unfounded promise that the tool will completely disrupt and reshape higher education. A tool like Domain of One's Own and ChatGPT (among others) have the real potential to radically change higher education pedagogy for the better, rather than the hype promised by most ed-tech companies looking to cash out on our students' backs.
