Abstract

The cardiovascular morbidity and mortality of older people is significantly increasing over the past decades resulting in an increased number of heart operations among elderly, therefore this topic is relevant and it also requires further monitoring and more research in this area. This literature review examines delayed effects of open-heart surgery on patients older than 80 with acquired heart diseases. The data on domestic and foreign scientists on the prevalence, the main modern methods of surgical treatment of these diseases is provided. The data on delayed effects and on the quality of life after various types of surgery is analyzed. In the majority of submitted works there were good results of the heart surgery on patients over 80. Surgical treatment of acquired heart diseases in conditions of cardiopulmonary bypass remains a gold standard of surgical correction of this disease, it is performed in most cases with high efficiency, acceptable mortality and with an improved quality of life during a remote period of observation in this category of patients.
