Abstract

We have developed a wide-dynamic-range image processing technology that compresses video signal level while preserving image contrast. Applying this technology to wide-dynamic-range images improves the contrast of the images which are displayed on a conventional display. In this paper we discuss the S/N ratio of wide-dynamic-range images which are synthesized from two different exposure-time images. In order to display wide-dynamic-range images on conventional displays with high contrast, we propose video signal expression which is not in proportion to luminance. This new expression of video signal is obtained from the divided region and edge base histogram equalization process.
