Abstract

A summary is given of work on flocks of West African Dwarf goats at Wageningen, the University of Ife (Nigeria) and a village in Nigeria. It was concluded that these goats are suitable for meat production under low and high levels of feeding and management. Under intensive management, daily gain averaged 80 g (0.3-0.4% of mature body weight), and the number of weaned kids produced per [female] per yr 2.56. Goats fed only roughage gained 43 g per day.
