In order to obtain a better musical understanding of the work, we address its compositional and historical aspects. Furthermore, we will point out the relationship between the text and the music present in the piece. This paper seeks to publicize part of the works by the composer from Minas Gerais, Hostilio Soares, and appreciate the importance of Machado deAssis's poetry for Brazilian chamber song. In addition, we intend to facilitate the comprehension of the piece's compositional process for an audience unfamiliar with musical language.
