Abstract

In this study, a Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method for the full-vectorial analysis of Fundamental Space-filling Mode (FSM) of photonic crystal fibers is introduced. In order to increase the accuracy of results obtained by this method, an initial field distribution is proposed and Pade approximation technique is applied. By comparing the effective index and chromatic dispersion results obtained by FDTD method and FDTD Effective Index Method (FDTD-EIM), the influence of the accuracy of the solution on the Effective Index Method (EIM) which is based on FDTD is also investigated. © 2009 Asian Network for Scientific Information.
