Abstract
Digital content creators have revolutionized the production and consumption of media and entertainment. Simulta-neously, these creators have emerged as modern creative individuals with the expansion of the cultural, technological, economic, and social influences of digital platforms. This article proposes a bibliographical review of the main concepts, theoretical models, and research that have explained and categorized practices and experiences of digital content creators. It particularly studies their relationship with the digital platforms for wherein they post content and attract users’ attention. The main concepts are framed within three sections: i) the relationship between visibility and attention; ii) visibility and survival strategies of digital content creators; and iii) scarcity-related experiences as well as emotional and psychological issues that digital content creators suffer from. Finally, it analyzes some of the current tendencies pertaining to the potential consolidation of professional and creative sectors formed by digital content creators. Furthermore, it identifies the scarcity of research on this topic in the current scientific literature. Based on such analysis, the study proposes some suggestions to provide a direction for future research.
