Abstract

The extraction of oil from passion fruit seeds using supercritical CO 2was studied. Experimental data were obtained for extraction conducted at 15, 20 and 25 MPa; at temperatures of 40 and 50 °C with CO 2flow rates of 1.5 and 3.0 mL min-1. An increase in the pressure, temperature and CO2flow rate increased the yield. The maximum extraction yield obtained was 18.5%. The mass transfer coefficients for passion fruit oil were found to be 8.496 3 10-5 s-1 at 25 MPa, 50 °C and 3 mL s-1CO2flow rate. Dilatant fluid behavior was observed in all tests of the rheological study.
