Abstract

Abstract: The main objective of this research study is to assess the effect of ultrasound (US) at different frequencies (40, 60, and 80kHz for 30min) on the extraction performance of crude palm oil in three stages of the process: inlet to the pre-clarifier, outlet sludge of the pre-clarifier, and desanded sludge. The results show that applying US at a frequency of 40kHz/30min at the entrance to the pre-clarifier produces a significant increase (19.35%) in the extraction yield of crude palm oil when compared to the control. A significant decrease in humidity and acidity is observed, generating attributes that provide added value to the product in the final sale price. It is concluded that ultrasound is an efficient and profitable technology for the extracting process of crude palm oil that significantly increases extraction percentage while improving the product’s physicochemical characteristics.
