Abstract

We propose a bistable nematic liquid crystal (LC) mode which has π- and 2π-twisted states. The fast switching properties between two stable states can be achieved by using a dual frequency LC. Due to the effect of pixel-isolating polymer wall and topological inequivalence between the two stable states, the cell has a possibility of good memory characteristic.
