The phytochemical composition of Trifolium pratense L. and Ocimum basilicum L. was investigated by using chromatographic and spectrophotometric methods. T. pratense extract was rich in ferulic acid (237.48mg/100g dry weight) and chlorogenic acid (158.50 mg/100g dry weight), meanwhile O. basilicum extract presented the highest concentration in ferulic acid (437.58 mg/100g dry weight). The determination of total phenolic and flavonoid contents indicated that O. basilicum contained the highest amounts (67.89mg GAE/100g dry extract and 6.49 mg QE/mL extract respectively), aspect which was corelated with its strongest antioxidant activity assessed by DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl), FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidant power) and CUPRAC (cupric reducing antioxidant capacity) methods.
