Abstract

Oreonetides Strand is a small genus, containing only 5 species, and 4 species of them are widely distributed in Europe. In Japan, one species of this genus, O. vaginatus was first recorded from Mt. Daisetsu in 1971. Since then no oreonetidid spider has been collected from the other regions in Japan. Recently, I found amount of oreonetidid spider in the specimens collected by Mr. Y. Takahashi from a wave-cut cave at the Natsudomari Peninsula in Aomori Prefecture. As a result of study on this spider, I came to the conclusion that the spider is new to science, therefore the description is given in this paper. Before going further, I wish to express my hearty thanks to Mr. S. Matsumoto, Kyorin University, for his valuable suggestion. Thanks are also due to Mr. Y. Takahashi for his kindness in permiting me to use his precious collection. © 1978, Arachnological Society of Japan. All rights reserved.
