Abstract

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a neurological disease that negatively affects daily activities and especially causes sleeping problems with a wide variety of symptoms such as pain, numbness, and tingling, a desire to move, and abnormal sensations, especially at night in the distal of both feet. Although there are certain symptoms of the disease, nonspecific symptoms often delay consulting the right outpatient clinic and diagnosis, therefore most of the patients reach the appropriate treatment later. Especially in some age groups, there are major difficulties in both diagnosis and treatment. Although iron deficiency is known to have a major role in pathophysiology, many genetic and environmental factors also have an effect. Even though dopamine agonists are still the first choice in treatment, it is clear that there will be new developments in both diagnosis and treatment in the upcoming period.
