Abstract

Hepatitis E is endemic in (sub)tropical countries while only sporadic cases have been described in industrialized countries. In a prospective study among 1270 short-term Dutch travelers to (sub)tropical countries we found no seroconversion to anti-hepatitis E virus (HEV) antibodies, indicating a very low risk for travelers to acquire a hepatitis E infection. © 2012 International Society of Travel Medicine.
