Abstract

Translators & interpreters play a significant role in intercultural communication. Aptitudes necessary for becoming a successful translator are considered. A study is reported that examines statistical differences in personality traits & interests between translators & interpreters, & differences in achievement motives between the two groups. A questionnaire was mailed & returned by 30 translators, 29 interpreters, & 34 persons performing both jobs. Significant variables relating to vocational aptitude for translation or interpretation were determined by discriminant analysis. 2 Tables, 3 Figures, 12 References. B. Annesser Murray
