Abstract
The article discusses a party thrown by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) in January 2011 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), a large conservation preserve located in Alaska. The author examines ANWR as a region of ecological preservation and a wildlife sanctuary, yet also discusses the potential for petroleum and gas drilling within the refuge.
