Abstract

Despite being a composer of great successes of Colombian popular music and having created music for more than 80 years, Magín Díaz García, one of the most important Afro-Colombian musicians in Latin America, only achieved recognition at 95 years of age. Thanks to his oral storytelling and his poetic quality, the musical figure of Díaz García finally crossed the abyss of anonymity and reached the most important international awards and became one of the great figures of the African Diaspora. The article takes an overview of his life and work as a recognition of his cultural contributions in our history.
