Abstract
Thinning with both Accel and SevinXLR Plus was more effective than using either product individually. Application of the mixture Accel + SevinXLR Plus on 'McIntosh' trees thinned to a level comparable to hand-thinning as reflected in the total yield per tree. Mean fruit weight increased significantly when the mixture of Accel and SevinXLR Plus was applied as a thinning agent. The largest fruit were obtained after the application of the mixture, and the weight of treated apples was higher than that of hand-thinned fruit. Accel + SevinXLR Plus increased apple flesh firmness and soluble solids concentration at harvest time and after storage, respectively.
