Abstract

The development of endosperm in Utricularia vulgaris var. americana conforms to the Scutellaria type of Schnarf (1917). Binucleate micropylar and chalazal endosperm haustoria are present. An accessory haustorial cell may differentiate adjacent to the chalazal haustorium. Sometimes the micropylar haustorium may be trinucleate. Occasionally the development of endosperm takes place by transverse divisions. In such cases the chalazal haustorium is usually uninucleate and the entire micropylar endosperm chamber differentiates as the micropylar haustorium.
