From the genesis to the consolidation of standardized tests in Brazil: The assessment system of basic education

Abstract

The current public policies for the assessment of basic education have been the subject of numerous studies. The present research, of bibliographical character, carried out from the Bank of Theses and Dissertations of Capes and Google Scholar, has as its central theme large-scale assessments in Brazil and aims to raise aspects of the genesis and consolidation of SAEB regarding the process of its construction and institutionalization, in order to contribute to discussions in the area. It is in the post1990 period that the external evaluation system was institutionalized in Brazil. The complexity of the theme is reflected in the academic production of the area. The genesis is found in the regulatory policy model and in the expansion of the use of statistical data as a management tool, having its consolidation with the creation of IDEB in the second half of the 2000s.
