Abstract

Extensive far-infrared studies of inorganic materials and pigments in the early 1960s are highlighted and related to the many subsequent Raman studies of the same materials, studies which led to the formulation of Raman spectral libraries for use in conservation science. The need for complementary infrared/far-infrared libraries is recognised. © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
