Abstract

We examined an estrogen-like activity in the pomegranate (Punicagranatum) juice. The juice or its methanol eluate from C18 cartridgecompeted with 17 beta -estradiol for estrogen receptor (ER) binding andalso stimulated proliferation of human ER-positive cell (MCF-7) invitro. Furthermore, they effectively increased uterine weight in theovariectomized rat. On the basis of these data, ne concluded that thepomegranate juice contained estrogen-like compounds.
