Abstract
This chapter explores the association between children's television viewing and socio-economic status. Using data from 'Growing Up in Australia, the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children' (LSAC), it examines television viewing rates by age group, time spent reading or being read to, parental concerns and supervision, parent and child television co-viewing, and television viewing during mealtimes, by family socio-economic position. The chapter discusses the findings and theories on the transmission of social advantage.
