Abstract

A novel chromate resistant bacterial strain was isolated and purified and identified as Bacillus laterosporus and used for Cr(VI) reduction application using living and resting cells. The evaluation of the environmental factors that affect the chromate reduction was investigated using a multifactorial experiment (Placket-Burman statistical design. Free and immobilized cells on natural supports were tested using a bioreactor for the treatment of some chromate loaded waste waters in Lebanon. Bacillus laterosporus is considered as a promising and ideal candidate that must be used in knowledge-based on toxic metal remediation system. © 2011 WIT Press.
