Attitude of paddy farmers towards crop insurance in Erode and Tiruchirappalli districts of Tamil Nadu

Abstract

Crop insurance is one alternative to manage risk in yield loss by the farmers. It helps in\rstabilization of farm production and income of the farming community. This paper has reported the\rresults of a survey of 200 paddy farmers conducted to assess their attitude and awareness about\rvarious facets of crop insurance schemes and to analyze the factors affecting awareness among the\rfarmers. The paper further examines the attitude about crop insurance in paddy farmers of Erode and\rTiruchirappalli districts of Tamil Nadu. Majority of them had moderate to less favourable attitude\rtowards crop insurance. The study concludes with various suggestions for increasing the awareness\rlevel of the farmers for ensuring better penetration of crop insurance in both districts.
