Abstract

This paper provides the review of the current literature, which reflects the etiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of descent and prolapse of the internal genitalia, as well as the most common complications of surgical treatment. It is extremely important for a practitioner to know about the issues of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of genital prolapse because this disease occurs most commonly. As early as 2006, genital prolapse was called a hidden epidemic. Every year only our country performs more than 50 thousand surgeries for descent and prolapse of the internal genitalia, 30% of which are associated with disease recurrence. Genital prolapse is a multifactorial disease that necessitates standardized evidence-based treatment, on the one hand, and individual surgical correction, on the other hand, for each patient. Only a comprehensive approach will be able to improve the results of surgical treatment in patients with genital prolapse, to reduce the recurrence rate of the disease and the risk of immediate and long-term poor results of surgical intervention.
