Abstract
2D arrays are able to 'view' a given defect from a range of angles leading to the possibility of obtaining richer characterization detail than possible with 1D arrays. This has clear benefits as real defects and engineering structures are three-dimensional. This paper describes different approaches to optimize 2D array design. Results are shown that illustrate the application of the proposed techniques to modeling and experimental data. © 2010 American Institute of Physics.
