Abstract

Aim: This study was done to determine the self-confidence and anxiety levels of the students who have taken or not taken internship program in clinical applications between the two-nursing training programs. Method: The universe of this descriptive and comparative study was formed by the nursing students from two different universities with (A school) and without (B school) internship program, who are taught within the classical curriculum in 3rd and 4th grades of the spring semester of 2017-2018. This study was completed with the students who accepted the research before the selection of the sample and completed the first and last day questionnaires of the clinical practice. Results: As a result of the study, the total scores of self-confidence total and subscale average scores of the students that took education of the internship program were found statistically to be higher than the total scores of the students who did not took education of the internship program (p<0.05). It was determined that anxiety total and subscale total scores of the students who received the internship program were lower than the total scores of the students who did not, but the difference was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Conclusions: In the study, the conclusion was that the internship program was effective in raising the level of self-confidence in clinical decision-making and lowering the anxiety levels of nursing students. The study is the first study on the subject in our country and new studies are needed.
