Abstract
This work is performed in the context of the intelligent monitoring of physiological signals using multiagent systems. Multiagent systems allow the handling of distributed information, communication and coordination between independent organizations and the implementation humanmachine interfaces. The proposed system allows the early detection of episodes of apnea-bradycardia and the automatic activation of a kinesthetic therapy to stop these episodes. To achieve this goal, a multiagent architecture is defined in which specific agents are associated with the different stages of the monitoring process: acquisition, processing, diagnosis and therapy. The system is composed of one or several acquisition devices and by a monitoring application. The monitoring application was implemented using a multiagent platform, thus facilitating the integration of specific knowledge and substantially reducing the time of software development. This work represents an important contribution to the automatic patient monitoring process. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.
