Abstract
We have observed the relative motion of two floating pieces of parsnip, and have repeated the observation for many such pairs at different initial separations. The interest of this simple experiment lies in its relation to the extensive historical background of fact and theory. Some of the background, though published, is not as yet well known, so that a brief review of it seems desirable.
