Abstract

Prevalence of Burnout syndrome in different academic areas and the relationship with sociodemographic characteristics. The aim of this study is to estimate the prevalence of Burnout syndrome in different academic areas, verifying the association between this syndrome and sociodemographic characteristics and undergraduate courses, as well as its dimensions. A cross-sectional study was carried out with 650 students from a university center in Santa Catarina. A sociodemographic questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory Student Survey - (MBISS) were used. Upon analysis in SPSS version 20.0, the results indicated the prevalence of 10.9% of students with the symptoms of Burnout syndrome and the association with the variables gender, satisfaction with the course, professional experience in the course area, travel time until college, and study time and supervised internship. Between Burnout syndrome and undergraduate courses, associations occurred in the dimensions of emotional exhaustion and professional effectiveness.
