Abstract

The results of interpretation of remote sensing materials and their statistical processing are examined for their utility in the identification of diamond-bearing areas within northwestern Russia. Arkhangel'sk Oblast is now believed to be one of the more promising locations for the discovery of new diamond deposits in Russia and the study compares remote sensing interpretation materials for the Zolotitsa River deposits (now a commercial producer) with those of the Timan-Kanin area farther north and east. A sketch map is presented showing the location of various features serving as interpretation keys for the possible presence of diamond-bearing kimberlite pipes.
