Abstract
Hamilton’s condition for the evolution of altruism by kin selection is rederived on an additive polygenic model. The approach uses intraclass correlation. It is then shown that the mean inclusive fitness is non-decreasing. The differences between and the relative efficacy of kin and group selection are discussed. © 1982, The Genetical Society of Great Britain.
