Abstract
Liquid batik waste from the staining process contains heavy metals, such as Chromium (Cr). Chromium has a high toxicity level and includes toxic and hazardous materials. Pleurotus ostreatus Spent Mushroom Substrate can be used as an absorbing material to decrease Cr concentration in batik wastewater because it still contains P. ostreatus mycelium and sawdust cellulose. P. ostreatus mycelium is useful to absorb heavy metal ions from wastewater and cellulose from sawdust has the potential to absorb Cr. This research aims to know the ability of P. ostreatus baglog waste to absorb total Cr and the optimum contact time of P. ostreatus in absorbing total Cr. The results showed that P. ostreatus baglog waste had the ability to absorb total Cr in batik wastewater at contact times with variations of 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 144, 168, 192 and 216 hours, respectively 22%, 45%, 15%, 35%, 45%, 60%, 62%, 76%, and 29% and in this process the decomposition of the substrate causes changes in pH and temperature due to fungal metabolism, namely 5.6 – 6 and 26˚C -28˚C in accordance with the permitted quality standards. The use of P. ostreatus baglog waste as an adsorbent was able to reduce total chromium levels with the optimum contact time treatment with a contact time of 192 hours by 76%.
