Abstract
A simple, efficient and green procedure for the synthesis of coumarin-3-carboxylic acids has been developed which involves the reaction of 2-hydroxybenzaldehydes with Meldrum's acid (2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxan-4,6-dione) in aqueous moist conditions under microwave irradiation. The protocol is much more efficient as the reactions were carried out at milder conditions and yields were also quite high.
