Abstract

This text describes the virtual 3D recreation of the Islamic city of Saraqustä (modern-day Zaragoza) which was created using the references of existing remains, hypotheses of various subject experts, as well as contemporary models of other cities. The different stages include a complete draft of the layout, 3D modelling with the help of parametric tools, and a final stage of ambience and rendering. Some of the elements that must be highlighted are the path and geometry of the Islamic wall, the Aljafería palace, the Aljama mosque, other smaller mosques and minarets, and some civil buildings. The project establishes a possible methodology for tackling the reconstruction of historical cities in the absence of ample graphical documentation, with the necessary use of comparative models and scientifically-based hypotheses.
