Abstract

'Weathering profiles' or ' regoliths' in Precambrian rocks are now being increasingly recognized as fossil soils or palaeosols. They are capable of providing evidence of palaeoclimate, palaeogeography and palaeotopography and may also indicate the role of Precambrian pedogenesis in creating ore deposits and long-term changes in soil-forming processes.-R.A.H.
