Abstract

The effect of electromagnetic stirring (EMS) or reduction of slab thickness by 0. 8 mm/m near the crater end has been revealed by macroscopic and semi-macroscopic investigations of slabs and plates. The degree of centerline segregation has been evaluated by use of sulfur prints and an EPMA macroanalyzer. The frequency of occurrence of hydrogen induced cracking in plate has been correlated to the degree of semi-macro segregation. Improvement obtained by lowering the phosphorus from 0. 010 to 0. 005%.
