Abstract

The paper endeavors to examine the entrepreneurial motivation of entrepreneurs of small scale sector. A sample of 250 entrepreneurs has been taken from the State of Haryana. Data has been classified on the basis of age, education, and nativity of entrepreneurs. Chi-square test has been used to find out association, if any between various variables taken for the analysis and entrepreneurial motivation of entrepreneurs of small scale sector. Analysis of data highlights that there exist significant variations in the entrepreneurial motivation of entrepreneurs of small scale sector and various variables taken for the study. Motives of entrepreneurs have changed considerably. The money is not a prime motive of entrepreneurs to enter into business line. The study highlights that entrepreneurs want to achieve higher needs such as power motive, higher social status, employment generation and provision of quality of goods and services to the society. Training institutes should design their motivation programs keeping in view the interest of the entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs' motives are beyond their financial needs. The reason to this has been attributed to the change in attitude of entrepreneurs under the new economic regime.
