Abstract
The rate of laparoscopic hysterectomy has been rising rapidly with many new and effective surgical techniques resulting in less intraoperative blood loss, less post-operative pain and shorter recovery with no difference in operating time or intra/post-operative complications./In a laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH), a part of the hysterectomy is operated laparoscopically while the main operation is through the vaginal route./In a machine-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy, the surgeon uses a machine attached to the instruments to assist in the surgery./In this chapter, a modified technique of LAVH with a laparoscope manipulating machine which had been in development since 2008 and bisected uterine removal, is presented. It has been found safe for hysterectomies of both normal and enlarged uteri./In addition, the basic approaches including indications, a step by step description of operative procedures and pre/post-operative management/will be discussed. In conclusion, the authors would like to share this modified LAVH technique for other gynecologic laparoscopists or young gynecologists to practice, modify and re-evaluate.
