Agent of Two Principals: Conflicts and Spillovers Between Business Organization and Open Source Project Roles

Abstract

While collaborations with open-source projects have become a strategic tool, there needs to be more focus on the resulting role conflict and the impact that mechanisms to cope with it have on the individual. We study the role of company regulations as a moderator of the relationship between organizational climate and member satisfaction. Results show that principal-agent theory can provide a lens to examine these situations and that spillover effects exist.
