In recent years, digital research has been promoted as a promising field in history. This essay explores what this methodological innovation means. It begins with the significance of new technologies,focusing mainly on writing. It argues that toward the end of the nineteenth century, the arrival of new technologies shattered the hegemony of the printed word. The second part explores this methodological approach. Finally, this article proposes a definition of digital history and discusses the characteristics and challenges of practicing history in the digital age by looking at some exemplary projects.
