Abstract
INTRODUCTION: To analyze the characteristics of the population to whom calcium polystyrene sulfonate (CPS) was prescribed for hyperkalemia, and the degree of compliance with the prescribed treatment based on electronic records in the pharmacy offices. CPS is the only potassium binding resin marketed in Spain. METHODS: A retrospective study was performed to analyze all the prescriptions given by physicians of our Health Department from January 1, 2015 to December 31 (341,155 citizens were included). Patients who had taken at least one prescription from a pharmacy were included. Information was taken from the Abucasis database using the Alumbra application (Official IT system in our region for the health system). We included all the prescriptions made by physicians of our Health Department (prevalence rate of ESRD 1350 ppm). The Alumbra application was used to isolate data regarding the generation, collection from the pharmacy office and failed to collect prescription. RESULTS: CPC was prescribed in 104 patients. Characteristics of the patients: Mean age: 72614 years (r: 26-99), 33%> 80 years, male 59%, CKD stages: CKD 1-2, 1.1%, CKD 3 16.1%, CKD 4: 15.1%, CKD 5 not on dialysis 9.7%, CKD 5 on dialysis 58.1%. (98.2% hemodialyisis). RAAS blockade: 38.5%. Mean potassium in prescription: 5.760.7mEq/L, eGFR: 15615ml / min / 1.73m2, Days of treatment prescribeb by the doctor: 5296331 (r: 8-1275) Actual treatment days followed by the patient: 3886275 (r: 8-1095) Prescribed units that should be collected by the patient 22627 (r: 0-229) Total prescriptions generated: 15619 (r: 1-138) Prescription collected by the patient: 12617 (r: 0-130) Prescription not collected: 3.766.1 (r: 3.3-7.4) Only 73.3% of patients followed the prescribed treatments Of the total number of prescriptions generated only the 80% of the patients collected their prescriptions Every patient failed to collect an average of 3.766.1 prescriptions from the pharmacy office (r: 3.3-7.4) CONCLUSIONS: CPS is prescribed in a relatively small number of patients. Half of CPS prescriptions are given to dialysis patients (mostly hemodialysis), they do however they are also prescribed at all stages of CKD.. Analyzing electronic record demonstrates that approximately a quarter of the patients receiving CPS do not adhere to treatment A quarter of the generated prescriptions are not collected by the patient in the pharmacy offices. New strategies are required for the treatment of hyperkalemia, as well as to intensify the monitoring of said treatments SP148 ORAL CONTRACEPTIVE RELATED RENAL INFARCTION
