Abstract
A canvas painting from the late 18th century, apparently in good condition, revealed that, after all, had already sufered considerable damage, possibly due to poor storage conditions. In irst half of the 19th century, it remained in a storage at Lisbon, together with other works collected from the extinct Portuguese convents. The painting was then subjected to numerous restoration interventions, being the more extensive ones, technically well executed, probably in the late 19th or early 20th century, although under diferent principles from nowadays. Based on the study carried out and using various methods of examination and analysis, the restoration interventions are described, especially the treatments of tears and gaps, some of which were executed in a rather unusual manner. Materials used in these interventions, are also identiied.
