Abstract
We have analyzed Uhuru observations of the galactic plane in 1970, 1971, and 1972. The great majority of the galactic X-ray sources are not “transient.” Some of the so-called transient sources persist for long periods of time at an intensity of a few percent of their peak values. The data sug- gest that the transient sources may be quite similar to the other galactic sources with outbursts caused by changes in the accretion rate.
