Abstract

The IAGA Working Groups in Palaeomagnetism and Rock Magnetism propose to establish a number of databases. Those pertaining to Directions and Poles are now well under way and will be established at two levels—regional and global. The global database is being established through contributions from a number of countries and will eventually be available to all through the World Data Centres. This note provides background details of the structure of the database and the final form in which it will be distributed to workers in this field. Authors are encouraged to include all the desired parameters in their published work and to send reprints to the present compiler and R. Van der Voo who has agreed to provide the first 4‐yr update.
