Abstract

The Light Water Reactor Sustainability (LWRS) Program's goal is to enable the continued operation of existing US nuclear reactors. It has two facets with respect to long-term operations: (1) to provide the industry with science-based solutions to implement technology that can exceed the performance of the current business model and (2) to manage the aging of plant systems, structures, and components (SSCs) so that nuclear power plant lifetimes can be extended and the plants can continue to operate safely, efficiently, and economically. The LWRS Program's research and development (R&D) activities enable nuclear power plants to enhance their efficiency and performance to reduce costs through a variety of projects that are carried out collaboratively with owner-operators, vendors, suppliers, and other research organizations.
