Abstract
This review describes the work on the alkaloids of Fissistigma latifolium and Meiogyne virgata from family Annonaceae and anthraquinones of Renellia and Morinda from Rubiaceae family. Annonaceae, known as Mempisang in Malaysia is a family of flowering plants consisiting of trees, shrubs or woody lianas. Meiogyne cylindrocarpa, Meiogyne monosperma and Meiogyne virgata are the only three Meiogyne species found in Malaysia. The phytochem. study on Fissistigma latifolium and Meiogyne virgata (Annonaceae) yielded twelve alkaloids; (-)-N-methylguattescidine, liriodenine, lanuginosine, (-)-asimilobine, dimethyltryptamine, (-)-remerine, (-)-anonaine, columbamine, lysicamine, nomuciferine, norushinsunine and cleistopholine. The major constituents of R. elliptica, nordamnacanthal, damnacanthal, rubiadian, rubiadin Me ether and lucidin-ω-Me ether are also present in M. elliptica and M. citrifolia. [on SciFinder(R)]
